A History of Me: Excavating Your Superpower
Excavating your superpower means getting to know yourself well enough to have the confidence and self-awareness to synthesize your focus, and this is your competitive advantage that makes you so good at what you do. Your superpower is the quality that makes you stand out, and what gives you an edge over everyone else, but it is also what hold you back, and makes you aware of the ways you need to outsource and network to compensate for what you lack or suck at.
Does this feel obtuse? We'll give you an example. Laena's superpower is Mediating, which means she's good at imagining a creative solution, communicating that solution, and translating and healing obstacles. What does this look like in reality? She's motivated by vision and inspiration, and wants to engage with projects and causes that feel important to her. She loves the hard-work and process of creative problem-solving, and wants to understand and find logistical solutions to complex issues. She's bad at networking and organizing stuff, so she finds others in her life to help balance her skills.
Have you thought about this before? What if your answer doesn’t feel genuine? Or you feel like you need a refresher? Well, there’s no better time than now to start plumbing your history for answers to this question.
First, I recommend everyone do (or redo) a Myers-Briggs test to discover your core personality characteristics. This is a good place to start.
